Arlington Park Handicapping Contests Begin With Finals

Arlington Park Communications | 05/12/2011 #

How can that be? I’m glad you asked. Read on to find out.

Arlington Park will offer a handicapping seminar/contest this Saturday, May 14, and it will be both the last and first of the season.

It will be the last because the contest is the finals for the Spring, 2011, OTB series of handicapping contests that were offered at Arlington’s Off Track Betting facilities throughout Northern Illinois. Contests were held on four Saturdays this past spring, with the top finisher, at each OTB, each Saturday, winning a berth into the finals. Therefore, forty spots in the finals were at stake.

There’s bad news and good news. The bad news is, one cannot play in this Saturday’s finals unless he or she earned that coveted berth.

The good news is, I think, the contest will be preceded by my FREE handicapping seminar, and one does NOT need to be in the contest to attend my seminar.

My seminar will take place in Arlington’s Starting Gate Theater, centrally located on the second floor. I will begin at approximately 11:45 AM. Attend to find out if I have changed my opinion on any of Saturday’s races since submitting my analysis for posting on arlingtonpark.com and printing in the track program. Remember, program changes, scratches, weather, and more can change how I see a race.

Registration for the handicapping contest finals will be held at the Twin Spires customer service counter located just south of the Starting Gate Theater. Please have your Twin Spires card and $50 ready. Registration begins at 11:15 AM, when Arlington’s admission gates open. Finalists can play from anywhere on the grounds where there is a self-service mutuel machine.

Since all finalists have played in this series, they should be familiar with the rules. Copies of those rules will be available at check-in.

This is it! The top finisher this Saturday wins a trip to Las Vegas to compete in the 2012 Coast Casinos Horseplayer World Series where the first prize is estimated to be at least $300,000.

Looking ahead, our summer series of handicapping seminars and contests begin on May 28. For the summer series we will award seven more trips to Las Vegas for the 2012 World Series. Details will be forthcoming here on my blog. In the meantime, put these dates for the summer handicapping contests on your calendar and make plans to attend: May 28, June 11, July 9, July 23, August 20, September 10, and September 24. And return next week for a story about the winners of this Saturday’s finals.
