Are you on the Big Brown bandwagon yet?
So now only the Test of Champions, the mile-and-a-half Belmont Stakes, stands between Big Brown and the Triple Crown. I hope you have already gone to our website and ordered tickets on line for Saturday, June 7. It should be an exciting day starting early with Breakfast at Arlington, followed by live racing and the Belmont Stakes simulcast!
I watched Saturday's Preakness Stakes from the announcer booth at Arlington (another great call from the Voice of Pimlico Dave Rodman, "Big Brown barrels through Baltimore undefeated"). Like everyone who saw it here, I was amazed at which the ease Big Brown toyed with his rivals in the final quarter-mile at Pimlico. Under Kent Desormeaux, Big Brown showed that stalking style and lane and gear changes that would make a BMW proud. And so now this riding machine heads down the Cross Island Parkway to beautiful Belmont Park with the Preakness in his rear view mirror. Are you on the Big Brown bandwagon yet? Or is the Peter Pan winner Casino Drive going to thrive in the spoiler role?! Hope you join us here to watch it all!
Thanks to all who came out for our first Breakfast at Arlington of the season! Especially our first guests, the father and son jockey team of Randy and Brandon Meier. I had the pleasure of working with Randy on the air at Sportsman's Park in March, 2000. Randy's knowledge of the sport, especially his insight into Chicago racing was invaluable! And Brandon proving there is no Breakfast jinx went on to win a race later in the day to start his young career off two-for-two! We even had jockey James Graham with a microphone to take us through two workouts. Brilliant job James! It was nice to see some familiar faces joining us at 7.30 a.m. Although as regular guests know "I am NOT a morning person." Coffee, please!
After a busy weekend, I'm looking forward to a few days off and my first ever trip to Los Angeles. Doesn't Malibu sound good to you?! See you all soon at AP with my binoculars and maybe a surf board in hand. Are those expensive?! Never mind, I'd drown. Maybe I'll stick to a Dodger game!
We have some big race days coming up including the inaugural running of the American 1,000 Guineas here on Saturday, May 24 and Memorial Day Monday racing too. So don't forget you can order your Arlington tickets on-line at our website. Now I can say Good-Bye!
