Arlington Million

Brandon Meier

Brandon Meier (born July 9, 1988, in Elk Grove Village, Ill.) is the son of longtime Chicago reinsman Randy Meier. Brandon grew up around the track but it wasn't until his late teens that young man decided he wanted to try to follow in his father's footsteps. He and his father agreed that Brandon would try college for a year and if he still wanted to ride, then he could give it a go. Brandon spent much of the summer of 2007 working for trainer Wayne Catalano, eventually becoming an exercise rider for the conditioner. After the '07 Arlington meet, Meier followed Catalano onto Hawthorne and later to Florida. Named to his first mount at the 2008 Gulfstream meet, Brandon was injured in the days leading up to the race and his debut was postponed until May 11 at Arlington, where he won at first asking aboard Houseboat despite getting banged in the face by his mount in the starting gate. He was named the meet's Rising Star and left for Southern California before the meet ended. Brandon was briefly featured in the Animal Planet reality series "Jockeys" which was shot while he was riding at Santa Anita. He departed there after a month and rode for a time in Kentucky before getting hurt at Turfway Park in December. He returned to action in time for the 2009 Spring meet at Hawthorne. Brandon had his "bug" for most of the summer of 2009 and won 31 races at the meet to finish 13th in the standings. In 2010, Brandon won his first Arlington Park stakes race in 2010 when he took the Purple Violet Stakes aboard Heavenly Lass.
