Christophe Lemaire was born in May 1979 in Chantilly, France. Enjoyed his first Group 1 success in the Prix Jean Prat in June 2003 aboard Vespone. Has won 28 more European Group 1s since then through 2011 including the Prix du Jockey-Club (Le Havre [Ire]), the Prix de Diane (three times, Sarafina [Fr], Divine Proportions, Stacelita [Fr]), the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches (twice, Divine Proportions, Elusive Wave [Ire]), the English 1,000 Guineas (Natagora [Fr]), the English 2,000 Guineas (Makfi [GB]) and the Champion Stakes (twice, Pride [Fr], Literato [Fr}). Has also won the Hong Kong Cup (Pride) and the Dubai Sheema Classic (Heart's Cry [Jpn]).
Finished a career best fifth in the 2007 French Jockeys' Championship with 101 wins, much thanks to his new contract to partner Jean-Claude Rouget's runners on the Paris tracks. In 2008, he slipped back to sixth in the Championship with 94 wins from 662 rides. In 2009, it was seventh (89 wins), in 2010 sixth (again 89 wins) and, up to Oct 23, he is in fourth place in 2011 with 86 wins.
His parents did not allow him to leave school until the age of 18, when he joined the yard of the great Andre Fabre, where he spent three years.
