E. T. Baird

Son of the late rider Robert L. (Bobby) Baird. His brother Billy, a former rider, is employed as a valet at the Chicago tracks. Eddie made his riding debut at Hawthorne Race Course on November 25, 1985, aboard Navy Gloves. As an apprentice, he won the 1986 Hawthorne riding title with a then-record 103 wins.He was co-winner (with David Nuesch) of the 1986 Eric Beitia Memorial Award, given annually to New York’s top apprentice jockey. Traveled to Hong Kong in Dec. 2005 to ride turf-sprint specialist Nicole’s Dream in a group I race there.Teaming up with leading owner Frank Calabrese and top trainer Wayne Catalano, E. T. had the best Arlington meet of his career in 2007 winning 89 races to finish third in the standings.
