Gennadi Dorochenko was born March 14, 1959 in Krasnodar, Russia. He began his career as a jockey in his native Russia in 1976 and for a time was employed by trainer Nikolai Nasibov, a leading horsemen there. He also rode for a time in Poland in 1989-90. He came to the United States to ride in 1993 and knew very little English at the time. He only won 13 races over seven years of riding in the U.S. He started purchasing yearlings at Keeneland in 2008 and has purchased more than 300 horses there since then. Some are shipped to Russia to be trained while others he trains here in the States. Before coming to Arlington for the 2011 meet, he had been training at Mountaineer Park in West Virginia. He won the Grade II Louisiana Derby in 2012 with Hero of Order. He won the Hatoof Stakes with Santina Dond on Million Day 2011.
