Jeffrey Sanchez

Jeffrey Sanchez was born  October 18, 1985 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.  His father, Raul Sanchez, was a jockey in Puerto Rico and his uncle, Milton Figueroa, was also a rider and has been a maintenance team member at Calder Race Course for years. Sanchez entered the Puerto Rico's jockey school at age 17, and after completion rode in races at El Comandante racetrack for three months. He won two races there before coming to Gulfstream Park in 2005. He won his first race in the U.S. in the summer of 2005 at Calder. His career took off in 2006 when he was the second leading rider at Calder and collected his first two graded stakes victories - the Smile Stakes (G2) with Nightmare Affair and the Spend A Buck with Handicap (G3) with Nkosi Reigns. He swept the 2009 Florida Stallion Series aboard Jackson Bend and repeated that feat the following year with Awesome Feather, who went on to win the 2010 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1).
