Martin Harley was born in Co Donegal, Ireland in 1990, and was apprenticed to legendary Irish trainer Jim Bolger. Harley rode his first winner at Down Royal on June 24th 2007 on just his fifth ride in public, and finished his first season as an apprentice with seven winners, although a back injury hampered his progress in 2009. His career took off when he came to England in 2011, and he now rides principally for trainer Mick Channon. In 2011 Harley rode 67 winners, bettered that total in 2012 with 74 , and is currently on the 47 winner mark so far in 2013. With his wins as an apprentice in Ireland he has ridden over 200 winners. The biggest success of his career to date was when he won an Irish Classic, the Etihad Airways Irish 1000 Guineas aboard Samitar for trainer Mick Channon in 2012.
