Mike Stidham was born Dec. 18, 1957 in Neptune, N.J. He has residences in Palatine, Ill., and New Orleans, La. His father, George, was a jockey-turned-trainer on the south Florida circuit. He began training in 1978 when his father sent him to Tampa Bay Downs with the horses that didn’t fit at the Miami tracks. He went to California in the early 1980s to continue his career and though connections established by his father and former rider Bill Hartack. He trained horses for Elmendorf Farm and Max Gluck. He returned to Florida two years later to take a job as private trainer for Meadowbrook Farm. He went back to California a short time later, began training horses for Harold Goodman and eventually became his private trainer. Trained graded stakes winners Manzotti and Two Altazano for Goodman. Stidham has always maintained a very high win percentage at Arlington and he also has a division at Delaware Park. He won his 1,000th race on Feb. 1, 2008, saddling Exoteric at Sam Houston Park. Stidham operates a stable of 70 horses for a variety of owners; including: Darley, Arthur Hancock, John Adger, Gary Bisantz (Cobra Farm), Phillip Maas, Amy Bondon, Peter Redekop, Jack Smith Thoroughbreds, Marty Nixon, Three Kings Stable, and Al and Ron Lepinsky.
