Luca Cumani is one of British racing's leading trainers, having enjoyed top-class success all over the world. Cumani has successfully overseen the careers of many great racehorses, achieving multiple Classic triumphs at home and abroad.

Kieren Fallon

Jockey

Kieren Fallon was born Feb. 22, 1965, the son of a plasterer, in Crusheen, Co. Clare, Ireland. Hails from a family with no racing connections but joined trainer Kevin Prendergast on his 17th birthday. His first winner was Picadilly Lord at Navan on June 18, 1984. In 1988, he moved across the Irish Sea to become apprentice to Yorkshire trainer Jimmy Fitzgerald.

Sheikh Mohammed Obaid al Maktoum

Owner

A cousin of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, has two or three mares and only a few horses in training, but he won the English Derby with his homebred High-Rise in 1998. High-Rise's dam, High Tern, was given to Obaid by Sheikh Mohammed, who has yet to win the Derby ... High Tern, who comes from the same family as one of Sheikh Mohammed's first stars, High Hawk (later dam of 1990 Breeders' Cup Turf winner In the Wings), won two long distance races.

Pedigree

Afsare is by Dubawi, a champion son of the late, great Dubai Millennium. Dubawi ranked as the best three-year-old miler in both Ireland and France in 2005, through victories in the Irish Two Thousand Guineas and Prix Jacques le Marois.

The well-bred Dubawi has already gotten off to a terrific start at stud, likely assuring that the ill-fated Dubai Millennium will have a lasting influence in pedigrees. Dubawi has sired major winners the world over -- European champion Makfi, hero of the 2010 Two Thousand Guineas who emulated his sire by taking the Jacques le Marois; reigning Dubai World Cup winner Monterosso; Italian highweight Worthadd; Grade/Group 1 winners Lucky Nine (Hong Kong), Dubawi Heights (Southern California), Poet's Voice (England), Happy Archer (South Africa) and Secret Admirer (Australia); as well as Germany's Beverly D. pre-entrant, Kapitale.

Afsare comes from a family that his trainer Luca Cumani knows well. He trained Afsare's dam, Jumaireyah, who won twice in England, as well as her stakes-placed daughter Reem Three, her stakes-winning half-brother Lost Soldier Three and her stakes-placed full sister Altaweelah. Further back in Afsare's maternal line, one finds 1979 French Oaks winner Dunette, the dam of 1990 Rothmans International hero French Glory.

Jumaireyah is by Fairy King, a once-raced full brother to the breed-shaping sire Sadler's Wells. Fairy King's top runners include European standout Falbrav, 1996 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe romper Helissio, 1999 Epsom Derby winner Oath, Irish highweight Turtle Island and French/English highweight Revoque, along with Australia's Encosta de Lago, a highly successful stallion Down Under.

Starter Analysis

Gelding comes from the stable of Luca Cumani who won the 1983 Arlington Million with longshot Tolomeo and was last seen when second in a Group Two at York in July when making his fourth start of the year. Son of Dubawi has won three of his eleven starts on grass and appears to be improving but was comfortably held by Crackerjack King when second to that one in Italy at this distance in May. Five-year-old has shown some tactical speed and can be running from just off the pace under Keiren Fallon who has been aboard for ten of the bay’s twelve lifetime starts.
