Mike Maker was born in Garden City, Michigan on February 7, 1969. His father George was a trainer in Detroit. Michael bought his first horse at the age of 13 with money he earned from hot walking and delivering newspapers. Michael would work for his father as an assistant before opening his own stable, but later leaving to work for D. Wayne Lukas in 1993. In 1997, he became Lukas's top assistant of the Churchill Downs stable.
Napravnik, born February 9, 1988 in Morristown, New Jersey, burst on to the racing scene in 2005 when she made her first career start a winning one aboard Ringofdiamonds. In 2006, she captured all four riding titles at Pimlico Race Course and Laurel Park and was runner-up as the nation’s top apprentice. She has won the Fair Grounds riding title three consecutive times (2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13), each year finishing atop the rider standings by at least 31 wins.
In 1994, Kenneth L. and Sarah K. Ramsey bought Almahurst Farm, outside of Nicholasville, Ky., birthplace of 1918 Kentucky Derby winner Exterminator and Standardbred legend Greyhound, and renamed it Ramsey Farm. The purchase of the historic property was soon followed by great successes at the track that belied the couple’s relative newness to the sport.

Five-year-old was last seen when second in the Modesty Handicap here to today’s rival Ausus and has won five of her fifteen starts on grass. Daughter of Kitten’s Joy is from the barn of Mike Maker who wins with 21% of his starters on grass and mare, who has some tactical speed, can be running from just off the pace under Rosie Napravnik but chestnut may well find this competition on the tough side.
