Pedigree

Draw Two is by Eclipse Champion 2-Year-Old and stallion Macho Uno, a half-brother to brilliant sire Awesome Again who has earned his own merits as a stallion.  A son of one of the best American racehorses of the last 50 years, Holy Bull, Macho Uno won a star-studded 2000 Breeders' Cup Juvenile over future Hall of Famer Point Given, as well as subsequent excellent sires Street Cry, City Zip and Yonaguska.  After being plagued by injury and lightly raced as a sophomore, the classy grinder would return to run a very good fourth in the 2001 Breeders' Cup Classic - defeating champions Galileo and Orientate.

Though he was not a grass horse, Macho Uno - like Awesome Again - has done a great job producing offspring with an affinity for the surface.  This is most likely due to the fact that their shared dam Primal Force is by the stunningly talented Blushing Groom, a multiple champion in Europe known for passing on a lightning turn of foot to his offspring - like turf champions Arazi, Nashwan and Rainbow Quest, as well as great dirt specialists Sky Beauty, Rahy and Mt. Livermore.  Macho Uno has produced 2013 turf stakes winners Mucho Mas Macho, Overheard and Silsita.

Draw Two's dam is the Pulpit mare Belle Watling, a maiden out of the unraced Housebuster mare Polly Adler.  Pulpit, one of the best sires of his generation until his untimely death in Decemeber 2012, was one of the best of his generation on the racetrack, as well.  After winning the Blue Grass Stakes, he would go on to Kentucky Derby favoritism before finishing fourth behind Grade I winners Silver Charm, Captain Bodgit and Free House.  He was injured and would never race again.  His ability as a turf influence is highlighted by Grade I-level offspring Stroll, Rutherienne and Parading. Through Housebuster - a son of Mt. Livermore - Draw Two is inbred to Blushing Groom, which would account for his improvement since being switched to the turf.

Starter Analysis

Gray comes off a decent fourth place finish in the Virginia Derby last month in his first start after a short break and has won two of his five starts on grass. Son of Macho Uno is from the barn of Michelle Nihei who wins with 13% of her starters in graded stakes and attracts the services of Gary Stevens in the saddle and can be running late for a chance at a small share but did draw a wide post.
