Chad Brown

Chad Brown was born 1978 in Saratoga Springs, New York.  Brown got into horses at an early age at an upstate New York track. He was an understudy to Hall of Fame trainer Bobby Frankel. At the time of the 2007 Breeders' Cup, Frankel returned to Cafifornia to attend to his sick dog and Chad Brown stepped in to take his place, saddling Ginger Punch to a win in the Breeders' Cup Distaff. In November 2007 Brown went out on his own.

Lanfranco Dettori

Lanfranco "Frankie" Dettori, MBE (born 15 December 1970) is an Italian horse racing jockey and celebrity. Dettori has been Champion Jockey on three occasions and has ridden the winners of more than 500 Group races. His most celebrated achievement was riding all seven winners on British Champions' Day at Ascot in 1996. He is the son of the jockey Gianfranco Dettori, who was a prolific winner in Italy. He has been described by Lester Piggott as the best jockey currently riding.

Kenneth L. and Sarah K. Ramsey

In 1994, Kenneth L. and Sarah K. Ramsey bought Almahurst Farm, outside of Nicholasville, Ky., birthplace of 1918 Kentucky Derby winner Exterminator and Standardbred legend Greyhound, and renamed it Ramsey Farm. The purchase of the historic property was soon followed by great successes at the track that belied the couple’s relative newness to the sport.

Stephanie's Kitten is by the same sire as defending Arlington Million champion Real Solution. Both are Ken and Sarah Ramsey homebreds by their champion turf horse Kitten's Joy, who was runner-up in the 2005 Arlington Million to Powerscourt (sire of Million pre-entrant Finnegans Wake). Kitten's Joy had starred in his only other appearance at Arlington, dominating the 2004 Secretariat Stakes during his Eclipse Award-winning campaign that also featured wins in the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational, Virginia Derby, Crown Royal American Turf, Tropical Park Derby and Palm Beach.

Himself a homebred, Kitten's Joy stands at Ramsey Farm near Nicholasville, Kentucky, and he has rewarded their faith in him by becoming the leading sire of 2013. On Million Day last year, the Ramseys celebrated a Grade 1 triple with sons of Kitten's Joy, thanks to Real Solution; Admiral Kitten, who garnered the Secretariat; and Big Blue Kitten, who became a multiple Grade 1-winning millionaire by capturing the Sword Dancer at Saratoga. Daughters of Kitten's Joy have likewise excelled in the Ramsey silks. Aside from multiple Grade 1-winning millionaire Stephanie's Kitten, Kitten's Dumplings enhanced her resume by taking the 2013 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup. Kitten's Joy is responsible for two American St Leger pre-entrants as well: the Ramseys' Admiral Kitten and Team Block's homebred Suntracer, the runner-up in last year's edition.

Stephanie's Kitten is out of Unfold the Rose, an unraced daughter of Catienus. Ramsey famously claimed Catienus from Sheikh Mohammed al Maktoum for $50,000 at Aqueduct on April 25, 1999. The son of Storm Cat went on to win a minor stakes at Delaware and place in four graded stakes, including the 1999 Suburban and Whitney. Catienus sired multiple Grade 1 queen and $1.9 million-earner Precious Kitten (a half-sister to Kitten's Joy), 2005 Breeders' Futurity winner Dawn of War, globetrotting sprinter Cannonball and multiple Grade 1-placed speedster Talent Search. Catienus is also the broodmare sire of $2 million earner Princess of Sylmar, who swept last season's Kentucky Oaks, Alabama, Coaching Club American Oaks and Beldame.

As if the Kitten's Joy/Catienus cross isn't enough, Stephanie's Kitten has a further Ramsey runner in her pedigree. Her second dam, Bail Out Becky, was purchased for $40,000 by Ramsey as a Keeneland September yearling. She would win eight stakes over her career, highlighted by the 1995 Del Mar Oaks. Bail Out Becky produced a Puerto Rican champion in Ransom the Kitten (by Kitten's Joy) and the stakes-placed Bail Out the King, and she is also the ancestress of Peruvian champion and U.S. Grade 1-placed Fly Lexis Fly.

The female line traces to the exceptional matriarch *La Troienne. Stephanie's Kitten comes from the branch of the family responsible for Grade 1 winners Cutlass Reality, Seldom Seen Sue, Ten Most Wanted and the successful international sire More Than Ready (the paternal grandsire of Beverly D. rival I'm Already Sexy).

Starter Analysis

Winner of last year's Grade One Just A Games Stakes appeared to have lost a step or two when unplaced in her first two starts of the year but showed a return to her best with a closing, narrow defeat in the nine furlong Diana Stakes at Saratoga in her latest last month. Winner of six of her thirteen lifetime starts on grass is trained by Chad Brown who will also saddle the top selection and who wins with 27% of his runners on grass. Daughter of excellent grass sire won her one previous start on the Arlington turf course and can be along from off what should be a solid early pace with Frankie Dettori retaining the mount.
