Pedigree

Harlan's Holiday has proven to be one of the best young sires in America.  A son of 7-furlong specialist Harlan (a Storm Cat/Halo cross) out of an Affirmed mare, Harlan's Holiday has produced such solid offspring as champion juvenile Shanghai Bobby, multiple Arlington stakes winner and local favorite Willcox Inn and the brilliantly fast Majesticperfection - a colt Steve Asmussen called the fastest he has ever trained. Harlan's Holiday did do his best running around two turns at nine and ten furlongs and seems to have passed along that ability to most of his offspring.  This year, in particular, has been a good one for turf sophomores, as he also produced Grade III Arlington Classic winner General Election, as well as multiple stakes winner Nontacatbutallama.

Stormy Len's dam is Rietondale, a daughter of Dynaformer out of the Diesis mare Aletta Maria.  This makes her a full sister to Beverly D. Stakes winner Dynaforce and a half sister to the extremely talented Cetewayo, stakes winner Bowman Mill and talented stakes-placed De Aar - dam of Willcox Inn.  This is all top-notch Chandler Family and Mill Ridge Farm stock.

By the same sire as one of Arlington's most popular local turf stars, out of a full sister to a winner of the Beverly D., Stormy Len is a made to excel at this course.  He is bred to absolutely love ten furlongs and may actually excel on softer turf better than most.

Starter Analysis

Dark bay produced his best lifetime performance when closing to finish a close third in the American Derby in his latest and has a record of 5-1-1-2 lifetime on turf. Trainer David Donk wins with 11% of his runners on grass and won the 1993 Secretariat with Awad and son of 11% turf sire Harlan’s Holiday has shown tactical speed in the past and can get a decent trip from just off the pace while being a contender for at least a share with Alex Solis returning to ride.
