Tom Proctor (born: April 21, 1956 in Gilmer, Texas) is the son of the late trainer Willard Proctor, whotrained at Arlington during the 1960s and 1970s before relocating to California. Tom took out his trainer’s license in 1978 and scored with his first ever starter, a sprinter named I’m Smoking who wen ton to be named California’s sprinter of the year in 1980. Trained the speedy Linear, who held track records at both Arlington and Sportsman’s parks.

Eddie Castro

The 28-year-old Eddie Castro, an Eclipse Award for Outstanding Apprentice Jockey (2003) and a Breeders’ Cup (in an initial attempt) has made a mark in first season at Arlington

Niall Racing

Niall Racing, the stable name under which Temeraine will race, is named for the horse's breeders Michael and Donard Niall.  The horse's ownership is the father-son duo of Timothy and Patrick Turney.Tim Turney has been involved in various aspects of racing for most of his life.  He and his wife Lisa own and operate Shamrock Glen in Kentucky.  It started as small operation but has grown to 200 acres.  The Turneys breed and foal about 50 horses there.

Temeraine is a full brother to two-time South African co-champion sprinter Overarching, but plainly exceeds his sibling in distance capacity. In that respect, he is a more typical product of their sire, Arch. By the Roberto stallion Kris S., Arch captured the 1998 Super Derby and set a track record at Keeneland in the 1 3/16-mile Fayette.

Many of his top performers are endowed with stamina, such as champion Blame, who tarnished Zenyatta's perfect record in the 2010 Breeders' Cup Classic; Canadian Hall of Famer Arravale, winner of the 2006 E.P. Taylor; ill-fated multiple Grade 1 heroine Pine Island; and Prince Arch, winner of the 2005 Gulfstream Park Breeders' Cup Handicap in course-record time. Other accomplished routers by Arch include last year's Donn hero Hymn Book (who is bred on the same cross as Temeraine); 2011 Arkansas Derby winner Archarcharch; and 2012 Vanity queen Love Theway Youare. Arch has sired another top sprinter, however, in English co-highweight Les Arcs.

Overarching was more of a sprinter/miler type than a pure speedball. She scored six stakes wins -- highlighted by Group 1 laurels in the 2004 South African Fillies Sprint and 2005 Horse Chestnut Stakes at a metric mile -- and placed in seven more events, notably in the 2005 Garden Province and Empress Club and when trying to defend her two Group 1 titles.

Temeraine and Overarching are half-siblings to a pair of turf sprint stakes winners, Dead Red and Alone at Last. They were all produced by the sprinter Lonely Fact, who earned her black-type when taking the 1998 Cactus Cup at Turf Paradise. She is in turn a half-sister to stakes scorers Miss North Beach and Victory Mount (in Hong Kong). Temeraine's fourth dam is stakes winner and influential matriarch Shore, ancestress of multiple Group 1 star Croco Rouge, highweights Taipan and Ali-Royal and 1997 1000 Guineas winner Sleepytime.

Lonely Fact is by Known Fact, who was famously awarded the 2000 Guineas upon the disqualification of Nureyev in 1980. The son of In Reality sired such top milers as multiple champion Warning and Markofdistinction, and his daughters are responsible for champion Banshee Breeze; Cockney Rebel, who turned the English/Irish 2000 Guineas double in 2007; turf marathoner Talloires; Data Link, hero of the 2012 Maker's 46 Mile; and the aforementioned Hymn Book.

Starter Analysis

Dark bay comes off a closing second place finish in the Arlington Handicap here last month behind Rahystrada when making his first start since May and has won three of his eleven lifetime starts on grass. Son of Arch is trained by Tom Proctor who wins with 17% of his runners second time off a layoff and with 19% of his starters in graded stakes. Four-year-old can be trying to make late progress with Eddie Castro retaining the mount but needs more improvement to be a serious contender.
