Pedigree

Treasure Beach has just one thing in common with undefeated phenom Frankel -- both are by European champion and world-class sire Galileo. A son of the patriarch Sadler's Wells, Galileo is out of 1993 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe-winning blue hen Urban Sea, making him a half-brother to all-time European great Sea the Stars. Galileo swept the Epsom and Irish Derbies in 2001, and added the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes, before retiring to stud.

In addition to the all-conquering Frankel, his headliners are last year's Arlington Million winner Cape Blanco, an American champion and Irish highweight; 2008 Epsom Derby winner and European champion New Approach (now a hot freshman sire); stellar Europeans Nathaniel, Rip Van Winkle, Teofilo and Golden Lilac; current Epsom Oaks winner Was and Irish Oaks queen Great Heavens; and South African Horse of the Year Igugu.

Treasure Beach was produced by Honorine, a three-time winner in handicap company in England. She is a half-sister to 2003 Hardwicke hero Indian Creek, who also landed the Earl of Sefton and Gordon Richards Stakes and placed in such events as the Prince of Wales's Stakes and Champion Stakes (twice). Honorine, who is herself out of Group 3-placed stakes winner Blue Water, descends from the family of recent Group 3 victress Shimmering Surf.

Honorine's sire, Mark of Esteem, was rated English champion three-year-old miler after garnering the 1996 Two Thousand Guineas and Queen Elizabeth II. His top runners include 2006 Epsom Derby winner Sir Percy, 2009 Metropolitan Mile victor Bribon, European champion sprinter Reverence and 2001 One Thousand Guineas queen Ameerat. Mark of Esteem mares are responsible for several high-level performers, led by last year's St Leger hero Masked Marvel, Group 1-winning sprinter Amadeus Wolf and the classy mare Crystal Capella.

Starter Analysis

Last year’s Irish Derby winner and Epsom Derby runner-up won the Secretariat Stakes over the course and distance last year but has failed to win since. Son of Galileo was sent to America two starts back when very disappointing as the heavy favorite when fifth in the Man O War Stakes at Belmont with no real excuse and fared slightly better when fourth in a Group Three at Leopardstown in August in his most recent start. Four-year-old is from the stable of Aidan O’Brien who is enjoying a huge year in Europe and colt must be respected for his connections but has the look of a horse who has not recovered from a hard season as a three-year-old.
