Trainer: Philippe Demercastel
Philippe Demercastel was born near Rouen, Normandy in France in 1953. He was apprenticed in Chantilly, but after four winless years moved to Tunisia, where he rode around 100 winners over the next three and a half years. He then worked for a number of years for Francois Boutin and Andre Fabre amongst others in Chantilly, before taking out his own license in 1982. In 1991 he won the French champion Hurdle with Rose or No and diminutive filly Magic Night won the Prix Vermeille (Gr 1). He has continued to train winners on a regular basis, with occasional stars makingtheir mark, such as the multiple group race winner Hightori, who was fifth in the Arc and third in the Dubai World Cup, as well as finishing third in both the Prince of Wales’s Stakes and ‘King George’ at Ascot. Spirit One will be his first starter in the Arlington Million
