Trainer: Philippe Demercastel

Philippe Demercastel was born near Rouen, Normandy in France in 1953. He was apprenticed in Chantilly, but after four winless years moved to Tunisia, where he rode around 100 winners over the next three and a half years. He then worked for a number of years for Francois Boutin and Andre Fabre amongst others in Chantilly, before taking out his own license in 1982. In 1991 he won the French champion Hurdle with Rose or No and diminutive filly Magic Night won the Prix Vermeille (Gr 1). He has continued to train winners on a regular basis, with occasional stars making
their mark, such as the multiple group race winner Hightori, who was fifth in the Arc and third in the Dubai World Cup, as well as finishing third in both the Prince of Wales’s Stakes and ‘King George’ at Ascot. Spirit One will be his first starter in the Arlington Million

Jockey: Ioritz Mendizabel

Mendizabel will be riding Spirit One for the first time in the Arlington Million. He was the champion jockey in France in 2004 when he rode 220 winners and he piloted this year's French Derby (GI) winner Vision d'Etat.

Owner: Kamel Chehboub

Chehboub was born in Marseille in the south of France in April 1962. Chehboub has two horses in training with Philippe Demercastel, Spirit One and his half brother Salsalavie, the winner of a Listed race in France. He also has four horses in training with French trainer Jean-Marc Capitte in the provinces. All of his horses are jointly bred by himself and his older brother Bouzid Chehboub. The pair have been involved as owner/breeders in France for around 10 years. Spirit One, twice a winner at Group III level, would be the most successful horse they have bred/owned to date.
