Beverly D S. (GI) Quotes

Quotes for the Grade I Beverly D. Stakes

Kent Desormeaux (rode the winner, Dynaforce): “It was déjà vu. Everything I said the last race went exactly the same this race. Nice easy pace to the half and then let her stretch it out in an attempt to take the foreign turn of foot away from them down the lane. That’s the way to beat the European horses. You can go as slow as you want the first three-quarters but you can’t wait ‘til the quarter pole to turn it on, but you have to be mounted too. You still have to the ability to get the kick to the wire.”

Bill Mott (trainer of the winner, Dynaforce): “The filly came ready to run. It’s her third race off the cycle on the layoff and everything worked out for her.”

Christophe Soumillon (rode Alnadana, 2nd): “She ran quite well. If had been on the lead from the start it would have been a better option but the other horse went to the lead on the fence quite fast so I had to wait to make it up the last 300 meters. I have no excuse and we finished second. She gave a quite a good performance and I am quite happy.”

Julien Leparoux (rode Pure Clan, 3rd): “There was no pace, and that hurt our chances. She closed well.”

Bob Holthus (trainer Pure Clan, 3rd): “There just wasn't any pace. She made up a lot of ground coming down the lane, and she was really running well at the end, but the pace hurt us.”

E.T. Baird (rode Tizaqueena, 4th): “She ran a great race. We got pretty nice fractions the first part. Turning for home she kicked it. She had a hard race, that's a tough bunch of fillies in there. I think she gave it her all.”

Ramon Dominguez (rode Points of Grace, 5th): “I had a good trip but I was little father back than I wanted to be. They way they came away has been the way they come home. All day on the grass there aren’t too many horses closing.”

Dominque Boeuf (rode Denomination, 6th): “This filly likes to dominate, and she gets a little difficult when things don’t go her way. The way the race set up didn’t favor the way she likes to run.”

Patrick Smullen (rode Mad About You, 7th): “The pace was too slow for my filly and she she never really relaxed through her run. She finished quite tired. The heat didn’t help but the race was just too slow. I thought they would have gone a little quicker than that (up front.) I never expected them to go that slow in a race like this.

Garrett Gomez (rode Black Mamba, 8th): “We were towards the back of the pack but we were covered within six lengths. When it came time to start running the closers were on top of the horses on the lead. My mare just couldn’t really get off on the top of the ground and come home. I felt like I was really in good shape but the come home for here wasn’t there.”
