‘Racing, Music and Fireworks Event’ Draws 38,357 July 4
Under picture-perfect weather conditions, Arlington International Racecourse's annual Independence Day "Racing, Music and Fireworks" celebration was enthusiastically greeted by a record fireworks crowd of 38,357. This represents a new attendance record for the Independence Day celebration from last year’s record-setting attendance of 37,809. In addition to the record setting crowd but not included in the totals are many people tailgating in the parking lot watching the spectacle from a distance.
“It’s a challenge to improve on what has become the area’s premier fireworks show. Our team is committed to innovation for not only the fireworks but for the entire ‘Arlington Experience’ and they have been able enhance it year after year,” said Arlington International Racecourse General Manager Tony Petrillo. “The entire day demonstrates Arlington International’s commitment to service and excellence, sending people home with smiles on their faces after a day filled with world class racing, music, food and then a spectacular celebration of our nation’s independence.”
Those in attendance were treated to 10 exciting Thoroughbred races plus music by How Far to Austin in the Park area as well as a special performance in the winner's circle by the Robbie Gold Band followed by a fireworks extravaganza with synchronized that amazed the crowd for more than 30 minutes.
Arlington’s holiday weekend festivities continue Friday with Miller Lite Party in the Park featuring live music by Black Cadillac; on Saturday with the running of the $100,000 Arlington Sprint plus live music on the band stage by Thunder Road as part of the Miller Lite Saturday Summer Bash; and conclude with the second annual White Sox Day on Sunday featuring appearances by former players and the team’s 2005 World Series Trophy.
