Another BC Juvenile Fillies Win for Catalano
Clearly Wayne Catalano knows a good 2-year-old filly when he sees one.
For the second time in three years, Catalano saddled a horse to win the $2 million Grey Goose Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies. This time, he completed the feat with Nancy Mazzoni's She Be Wild, winner of the Top Flight Stakes and the Grade III Arlington-Washington Lassie this summer at Arlington Park.
Expertly ridden by Julien Leparoux, the daughter of Oflee Wild burst through along the rail in deep stretch to win the mile and sixtennth race by three-quarters of a length.
"I got a perfect trip," said Leparoux. "I was on the rail all the way. I was hoping it would open up at the top of the stretch, but I didn't really know. It did open up, a little bit, and that was good. That was all I needed."
"When they were loading, she was getting a little excited but she broke good," added Catalano. "Everything went well. I'm really happy with her. I was a little worried when it looked like she might get trapped but I have a good rider who is patient. I felt good when she poked her head in the hole. She's not a big filly so it doesn't take much room."
