Arlington Park will offer handicappers two chances to qualify for the DRF/NTRA National Handicapping Championship (NHC) to be held in Las Vegas in January 2010. Each Arlington-sponsored tournament will be "live-money" tournaments and offer cash prizes as well as three berths into the national tournament, which in 2009 offered more than $1,000,000 in prize money. Registration for both tournaments will be accepted beginning Wednesday, April 15, 2009, online at www.arlingtonpark.com and clicking racing & handicapping and then handicapping contests.

The first of the two tournaments is scheduled for Saturday, July 18 at Trackside Arlington Park and will be limited to 300 entries with a maximum of two entries per person. Players will be responsible for purchasing a $500 wagering card at the time of registration, which will serve as the player's live bankroll for contest purposes.

Each player must wager a minimum of $500 in contest wagers on the day placed over 15 races, at least 10 of which must be on Arlington Park races. There is no minimum wager per race and the player may re-invest monies earned from winning wagers. For instance, if a player places a $5 win wager on the first race of the day that pays $15, the player may add the $15 to future contest wagers placed. Tournament wagers are limited to Win, Place, Show, Exacta, and Trifecta pools only but the player may wager on multiple pools in a single contest race. The player with the largest bankroll at the end of the tournament will be declared the winner.

The Grand Prize will be $500 in cash plus an entry to the DRF/NTRA National Handicapping Championship in Las Vegas in January 2010 and in lieu of airline ticket, $500 for the contestant to book their own round-trip airfare to McCarran Airport in Las Vegas. Total package value is approximately $4,500.

The second-place finisher will earn $350 plus an entry to the DRF/NTRA National Handicapping Championship in Las Vegas in January 2010 and in lieu of airline ticket, $500 for the contestant to book their own round-trip airfare to McCarran Airport in Las Vegas (approximate prize value is $4,350); third place will be worth $250 plus an entry to the DRF/NTRA National Handicapping Championship in Las Vegas in January 2010 and in lieu of airline ticket, $500 for the contestant to book their own round-trip airfare to McCarron Airport in Las Vegas (approximate prize value $4,250); fourth place will be worth $500; the fifth-place finisher will earn $400; sixth place will be worth $300; seventh place will be worth $250; while eighth- through 10th-place finishers will each earn $200 and 11th- through 20th-place finishers will pick up $150 each.

On Sept. 12, Arlington Park will present its first-ever High Limit Showcase live money tournament, which will be limited to 60 entries (one entry per person). Players will be responsible for purchasing a $2,500 wagering card at the time of registration, which will serve as the player's live bankroll for contest purposes.

Each player must wager a minimum of $2,500 in contest wagers on the day placed on all of Arlington Park's scheduled races that afternoon. There is no minimum wager per race and the player may re-invest monies earned from winning wagers. As in the July tournament, wagers are limited to Win, Place, Show, Exacta, and Trifecta pools only but the player may wager on multiple pools in a single contest race. The player with the largest bankroll at the end of the tournament will be declared the winner.
