ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (May 2, 2008) – Frank C. Calabrese’s Dreaming of Liz, winner of the Grade III Arlington-Washington Lassie here last September, scored a front-stepping victory in her return to the local oval when she took the $56,100 Double Delta Stakes by a length on the opening day card at Arlington Park.
Originally carded for about one mile over turf, the race was moved to a mile and a sixteenth on the Polytrack following a morning rainstorm. With Hall-of-Fame reinsman Earlie Fires in the saddle, Dreaming of Liz covered the distance in 1:42.77 and paid $12.20, $6.20 and $4.20.
“She was really comfortable,” Fires said. “Her last couple of races weren’t that good so I wasn’t sure how much I’d have when I asked her, but when I asked her she ran. She’s a nice filly.
”The win was the third in four starts over the Arlington Polytrack for the Wayne Catalano-trained daughter of El Prado. She earned $33,660 to boost her bankroll to $139,970.
Vancy Pants, the 2-1 post time favorite, rallied to finish second in the 10-horse field and paid $3.20 and $2.40. Tight Precision was third and paid $3.
Completing the order of finish was Elle Tish Slew, Nijinsky Ballet, Talkin Indian, Pure Baby, Summer Courtship, Thirteen Moons and Sweet Aptitude.
