Informed Decision Solid Choice in Chicago Handicap
Grade I stakes winner Informed Decision, who races in the colors of the Augustin Stable, looks to add her name to an impressive list of Chicago Handicap heroines when she heads to post as the prohibitive 3-5 choice in the Grade III $150,000 holiday headliner.
Since its 1986 inaugural, the seven-furlong dash has been won by such standout sprint distaffers as Safely Kept, Meafara, Fit For A Queen and Withallprobablility.
A daughter of 2001 Kentucky Derby winner Monarchos, Informed Decision brings a four- race win skein that dates back to last September into the Chicago Handicap. During that time frame, the Jonathan Sheppard trainee captured three graded stakes at the seven-furlong distance - the Grade II Raven Run and the Grade I Vinery Madison Stakes, both over Keeneland's Polytrack surface, and the Grade I Humana Distaff at Churchill Downs.
Julien Leparoux will come in from his Kentucky base to ride Informed Decision, who drew post three in the six-horse field and will carry top weight if 124 pounds, spotting her rivals nine to 11 pounds.
Sharing second high weight of 115 pounds is Vinery Stables & Fog City Stables' Authenticat and Robert Adams' Unforgotten.
The former, a daughter of D'wildcat enters off a 1 ¼-length victory in the $125,000 Ballade Stakes at Woodbine. The Josie Carroll-trained 4-year-old is based at the Toronto oval and thus is no stranger to all-weather surfaces with all of her six career tallies coming over synthetic surfaces. Her regular rider, Robert Landry, will make the trip from Canada to partner with Authenticat.
Unforgotten seeks her first victory of 2009 in the Chicago Handicap after finishing last of nine in the Churchill's Grade II Fleur de Lis in her most recent effort. Prior to that, the daughter of Northern Afleet fared better when running second in the Grade II Distaff at Pimlico on the Preakness Day undercard. A career earner of more than $400,000, the Dallas Stewart charge will be ridden by Fernando Jara.
Completing the field for the Chicago Handicap (with jockey and weight assignment are): Rabbah Bloodstock's Crown of Diamonds (Junior Alvarado, 113 pounds); William Wahl's Tiz to Dream (Jesse Campbell, 114); and Lothenbach Stables' Choragus (Eduardo Perez, 113).
