Kentucky Derby's ‘Glory' Gets Public Work at Arlington Between Races Sunday
Louie Roussel III and Ronnie Lamarque’s Recapturetheglory, fifth behind Triple Crown hopeful Big Brown in the Kentucky Derby four weeks ago, will treat guests with a public half-mile workout Sunday afternoon (June 1) between the seventh and eighth races of the day.
Recapturetheglory led every step of the way when winning the Grade II Illinois Derby by four lengths on April 5 in his last start prior to the Kentucky Derby. In the Run for the Roses, the Kentucky-bred sophomore lost all chance when being forced to race very wide throughout the mile and a quarter-test.
The highly regarded colt will come to the paddock with the horses for Sunday’s seventh race, and then get schooled in the paddock and tacked up while the seventh race is being contested. Jockey James Graham will return to the paddock after riding in the seventh to be aboard Recapturetheglory for his public work.
“Right now, we’re talking about Churchill Downs’ (Grade III) Northern Dancer Stakes (June 14) or Prairie Meadows’ ($250,000) Iowa Derby (June 27) for his next start,” said Van Deren.
