Place Pick 9; Multi-Track Z-Bet (High-5) Wager New to Arlington for 2009
Arlington Park has a new wager and enhancements on existing wagers on tap for its 2009 season, which begins on Friday, May 1, and runs through Sunday, Sept. 27.
For the first time in its history, Arlington Park will offer a Place Pick 9 wager that will usually begin with each afternoon's first race. The $1 minimum wager requires a bettor to correctly select either the first-place or second-place finisher in nine consecutive races. In the event there is no ticket sold which designates the nine official first- or second-place finishers of the Place Pick 9 races, 25% of the net pool will be distributed to the holders of the tickets that correctly pick the most races correctly, and 75% of the net Place Pick 9 pool will be carried over to the next day.
Even when someone correctly picks the official winner or second-place finisher in all nine races, 25% of that day's net Place Pick 9 pool will be distributed to the holders of the tickets that correctly picks 8 of 9 races correctly and 75% of that day's net Place Pick 9 pool, plus 100% of the carryover (if any), will be distributed to the holders of the tickets that correctly picked all nine races.
Another twist to the Arlington Park wagering lineup this season involves the High-5 wager which was introduced here last season. The High-5 wager requires a bettor to correctly select the first five finishers (in order) on a designated race. If nobody hits the wager, the entire net pool will carryover to the next scheduled High-5 race, creating the potential of a life-altering payoff because this year Arlington Park is teaming with Churchill Downs in Kentucky and Calder Race Course in Florida to create a three-track Z-Bet where the carryover will be added to the next scheduled Z-Bet regardless of which track's Z-Bet race is up next.
For example on a typical day if Calder's Z-Bet (High-5) results in a $10,000 carryover, that money will be carried over to Arlington Park's Z-Bet and if nobody hits the bet there, the entire net pool plus the previous carryover will be added to Churchill Downs' Z-Bet. If nobody hits the wager at Churchill, the entire net pool plus the previous carryover(s) would carryover to the next day's first scheduled Z-Bet wager, regardless of track. The order of the tracks Z-Bet wagers could vary from day-to-day.
The multi-track Z-5 wager will begin Saturday, May 9. Until that time, Arlington will offer a stand-alone High-5 wager that will have a day-to-day carryover at Arlington Park should nobody correctly select the top five finishers in order. There will be a mandatory payout of the Arlington-only High-5 wager on Friday, May 8.
