Preparation Continues,Traffic Plan Announced DeWyze Performance
Arlington Park has been selected to host a Mini-Concert for "American Idol" contestant Lee DeWyze should the Mount Prospect, Ill. resident advance via the public's vote to show's Final Three. The Mini-Concert, scheduled for Friday, May 14 at 6:30 p.m., will be an acoustic-guitar driven selection of Lee's music.
The Mini-Concert will offer fans viewing from five large LED screens and will be preceded by video footage of his climb through the elimination ranks of the popular FOX television series.
The racecourse can hold in excess of 45,000 people and track officials will be ready to handle that number. The track has already twice hosted crowds of more than 20,000 since its season began two weeks ago, including almost 30,000 last Sunday for Mother's Day.
This is a ticketed event only. Those fans who wish to only come for the post-race performance can do so free of charge but will need to secure a general admission ticket that allows entry to the racetrack after 4 p.m. by visiting www.arlingtonpark.com after Wednesday night's "American Idol" results program concludes at 9 p.m. Central time. These general admission tickets will not include reserved seating and will be made available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Those fans wishing to purchase admission and reserved seats for the afternoon's races, which begin at a special time of 1 p.m. to accommodate the post-race mini-concert, will be permitted to remain in those seats for the free performance. Tickets for racing start at just $6 and can be purchased online at www.arlingtonpark.com.
Please be advised that outside food and beverage will not be allowed to be brought inside Arlington Park for this event with such items available for purchase at the facility.
The performance at Arlington Park follows a motorcade/viewing through downtown Mount Prospect. The motorcade will begin at approximately 4:30 p.m., and proceed down Northwest Highway between Route 83/Main Street and Central Road.
In addition, with significant portions of I-290 under construction, officials are encouraging people to allow plenty of travel time from Chicago to the northwest suburbs for both the motorcade and the mini-concert. The METRA Chicago Northwest train line has stops in Mount Prospect and at Arlington Park.
Entry to the racecourse parking lots will be restricted to ticket-holders only after 4 p.m. and area police will help keep things moving smoothly by directing traffic on the major thoroughfares adjacent to the racecourse.
Exit following the Mini-Concert will be restricted as follows - those exiting through Gate 1 will only be able to go northbound on Wilke Road, those exiting from Gate 3 near Trackside will have to turn left on Euclid and then southbound on Wilke Road. Gate 5 traffic will be sent eastbound on Euclid while Gate 6 traffic will flow westbound on Euclid.
