Quota Gets There in Time for Safely Kept Stakes Win
Adele B. Dilschneider & Claiborne Farm’s Quota overtook pacesetting Magnetic Miss in the waning yards to win the $54,900 Safely Kept Stakes by a half-length on Sunday at Arlington Park. Junior Alvarado rode the Al Stall Jr.-trained daughter of Seeking the Gold who covered the six furlongs over Polytrack in 1:09.65.
The Safely Kept was the second win in three starts this year for the homebred 4-year-old filly, and her fourth victory in eight starts over all. She earned $32,940 to boost her bankroll to $153,731.
Magnetic Miss, under Hall of Fame jockey Earlie Fires, was hustled away alertly from the outside post in the 12-horse field and was quickly moved to the rail where she posted fractions of 22.16 seconds for the quarter-mile, 44.91 seconds for the half-mile and a five-furlong split of 57.13 before giving away grudgingly inside the sixteenth pole.
It was a length and a half back to third-place finisher Dhanyata, who was followed by Secret Kin, Ally’s Little Sis, Spring Awakening, Sole of the City, Saint Pegasus, Funny Girl Rachel, Pretty Jenny, Bluesbdancing and Taylor Madison to complete the order of finish.
Sent off at odds of more than 15-1, Quota returned $32.60, $12.40 and $8.20. Magnetic Miss paid $11.20 and $6.20. Dhanyata paid $3.40.
