Jay Sloan of McLean, VA and Rick Zimmer of New York, NY, tied for top spot in the Trackside Arlington Park NTRA/DRF Qualifier each earning a final bank roll of $170.80 and with Sloan taking home the $8,000 first place prize after winning the tie breaker. With Sloan and Zimmer both booking their tickets to the NTRA/DRF National Handicapping Championship in Las Vegas, prize money had to be decided by a tie breaker. Sloan broke the tie having picked five winning horses during the day versus Zimmer's four. Paul Weizer of Leominster, MA took third place, and the final qualification spot for the Las Vegas championship. Sloan was able to build his bankroll picking Tale of Ekati to win the $750,000 Wood Memorial and Recapturetheglory to win the $500,000 Illinois Derby. Sloan's biggest score of the day, however, was Salinja in the eighth race from Keeneland. Salinja paid $39.20 to win and $14.00 to place. Zimmer also picked out Salinja, but topped that play by picking Power Blitz in the second race from Santa Anita. Power Blitz paid $42.20 to win and $18.00 to place. For finishing in second, Zimmer took home $4,000 and for his third placed finish, Weizer netted $3,000. Overall, $25,500 was paid out to the top 20 finishers. The top ten players also received prize packs from BRISNET. James Warner of Burlington, IL won the Trackside OTB Play-In Contest bonus prize of $500 for being the top Trackside OTB Play-In Contest finisher, placing 12th. 1.
