Marine Week

Honoring the Marines

Arlington Park is honored to host the United States Marine Corps as part of their week long Marine Week in the Chicago area from May 11-17. The Marines will be onsite at Arlington Park May 15-17 displaying their equipment and pagentry and offering the Grand Finale to Marine Week with a tactical aircraft demonstration and two performance from "The Commandant's Own" Marine Drum and Bugle Corps.

There is no charge to view the static displays located at each entrance throughout the weekend, but admission is required for activities within the track and for the special performances on Sunday, May 17.

Marine Week Finale

On Sunday, May 17 Arlington Park will host the only aircraft demonstration as the U.S. Marine Corps will conduct a tactical aircraft exercise featuring several helicopters and the state of the art MV-22 Osprey. Additionally, guests will be treated to performances from the "The Commandant's Own" Marine Drum and Bugle Corps and the Marine Corps Silent Drill team before and after racing.

Marine Week Performances

In addition to the special performances during Sunday's finale, the Marine Corps will also offer a special musical performance from the 29 Palms Band Jazz Ensemble Performs on Miller Lite Band Stage from 2:30pm - 4:30pm on Friday, May 15th. Also, throughout the weekend, the Marine's Working Dog team will execute demonstrations with their dogs.

Marine Week Static Displays

Over the course of the entire weekend, Marine Corp vehicles and equipment will be on display. The vehicles range from helicopters to surface equipment such as the HIMARS, or High Mobility Artillery Rocket System. Here is a list of vehicles and equipment on display:

Clubhouse Entrance

CH-53 - The CH-53 Sea Stallion is the most common name for the Sikorsky S-65 family of heavy-lift transport helicopters. Originally developed for use by the United States Marine Corps.

HMMWV - The High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV or Humvee) is a military 4WD motor vehicle.

HIMARS - The High Mobility Artillery Rocket System is a multiple launch rocket system that has been deployed in Iraq.

MRAP - Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles are a family of armored fighting vehicles designed to survive IED attacks and ambushes

7-Ton - The 7-Ton is a heavy equipment mobility vehicle that can carry a payload of 7-tons off road and 12-tons on road.

AAV - The AAV is an armored assault amphibious full-tracked landing vehicle. The vehicle carries troops in water operations from ship to shore, through rough water and surf zone.

Grandstand Entrance

UH-1 - The Bell Helicopter UH-1 Iroquois, commonly known as the "Huey", is a multipurpose military helicopter, famous for its use in the Vietnam War.

Avengers - Military Humvees with special weapon capability.

Inside the facility

Weapons Display - A collection of weapons utilized by the US Marine Corps, each manned with a Marine able to explain the purpose and use of each weapon.
