Kool Kate will be looking to make it four in a row Saturday when she lines up against nine other fillies and mares in the $75,000 Mike Spellman Memorial Handicap at Arlington International Racecourse. The field is set to go 1 1/16th-miles over the Arlington turf course on the Saturday co-feature.
Owned by John E Wallace and Anthony J Granitz, Kool Kate began her win streak in April when she got her first win of 2019 in a starter allowance race at Tampa Bay Downs. After another victory in the starter allowance condition, trainer Anthony Granitz stepped her up last out to face $40,000 allowance optional claiming open company where she won impressively posting a career high speed figure and improving her lifetime record to 16-9-4-0.
The daughter of General Quarters has won two of her three attempts over the Arlington turf course, and has won a total of eight of her thirteen tries on the grass. She will be looking for her first career stakes victory in Saturdays Mike Spellman, and will be guided by Arlington’s leading jockey Jose Valdivia Jr. The pair will break from the outside post 10.
Strollin the Bayou will be making her fourth start of 2019 on Saturday, and is coming off of a solid second place finish in June at Arlington.
Owned by Moabo Stables LLC, and trained by Chris Block, Strollin the Bayou had a successful 3-year-old campaign in 2018 where she won three of her seven starts including a stakes win in ther Purple Violet at Arlington over the main track. The daughter of Stroll has yet to win in 2019, however, she is coming off of a solid second place finish against open allowance company last time out and looks to be getting back on track. Strollin the Bayou will be ridden by Carlos Marquez Jr. and will break from post 3.
