Flaxman Holdings, Ltd.

Flaxman Holdings is the name for the racing empire built by Stavros Niarchos. He passed away in April 15, 1996 and his daughter Maria Niarchos-Gouaze took over the famiy's racing business. Niarchos got involved with horse racing in the 1950s and made a quick impression as an owner by campaigning champion English juvenile Pipe of Peach. Niarchos earned top owner honors in France for 1983 and 1984. He then took home the top breeder award in 1989, 1993, and 1994. One of his top runners was Miesque, winner of ten group or grade one races, including two wins in the Breeders' Cup Mile in 1987 and 1988. When his health began declining Maria took over the business with the help of Alan Cooper, the family's racing manager.
Since his death the family has had continued success. In 1997 they won the Breeders' Cup Mile with Spinning World.
