MONSTERS OF THE MIDWAY WILL SHUFFLE TO ARLINGTON ON SUNDAY
Chicago's premier football team will be honored by Chicago's premier Thoroughbred oval this weekend when a healthy contingent of Chicago Bears past and present will be on hand at Arlington for Chicago Bears Day on Sunday.
Football fans old enough to fondly remember the 1985 Super Bowl Champion Chicago Bears may want to let muscle memory recall and refine the steps of the Super Bowl Shuffle while wearing their orange and blue proudly when they come out to Arlington that day.
Younger fans may want to be on hand at Arlington Sunday in the Park area where the Bears Head which the players run through during player introductions at Soldier Field will be on display at the entrance to the Park. Of course, to really get into the spirit of the afternoon, they also are encouraged to proudly wear the orange and blue.
Also on Sunday, Bears fans of all ages may want to journey to the Starting Gate Theatre on the second floor of Arlington's Grandstand to get their picture taken with the Bears' Super Bowl XX trophy which will be on display at that location.
From 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, fans can get an autograph from James "Big Cat" Williams, who played for the Bears from 1991-2002, on the East side of the Paddock; or from Shaun Gayle, a popular member of the team from 1984-1994 including the 1985 Super Bowl XX Champions, on the West side of the Paddock.
From 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Sunday, fans can get an autograph from Steve "Mongo" McMichael, one of the most popular members of the 1985 Super Bowl Champion and a veteran of the 1981-1993 seasons, on the West side of the Paddock.
Tom Thayer, a former Bears player from 1985-1992 and the man who now provides color commentary on radio broadcasts of Bears games, and Nick Roach, a current Bears linebacker, will be available for autographs from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. on the East side of the Paddock.
However, fans must remember that players and/or times are subject to change, and due to the popularity of this event, autographs are not guaranteed to all guests. Autograph availability is contingent upon the time allotted and number of guests in line. The autograph session ends promptly at 3:30 p.m., and in the event of inclement weather, the autograph session will be moved inside.
Also on Sunday, the Chicago Bears drumline will welcome guests through the gates at 11:15 a.m. and play in the Winner's Circle and the Park area during the day, and the Winner's Circle and the Park area will be decked out in orange and blue for the entire day.
Members of the Bears staff will be in the Park area conducting a football toss and other activities for the kids. In addition, the Staley Van and Dance Express will be on hand near the band stage in the Park area.
Lastly, Argus Brewery and Jarrett Payton will be on hand at Mr. D's Sports Bar from noon until 3 p.m. sampling out their new creation: The Jarrett Payton All-American Wheat Ale.
