Chicago Cubs, White Sox World Series Trophies Part of Impressive Display at Arlington's Champions Day
Arlington International Racecourse was delighted to present a one-of-a-kind opportunity for sports fans and fans of sports history on Saturday. The Chicagoland-oval played host to its first “Champions Day” in which an impressive collection of championship trophies was displayed for photo opportunities for track attendees. Featuring trophies from championships in a variety of sports, guests had the opportunity to see and photograph both the Cubs and the White Sox World Series trophies. It was the first time that these two pieces of Chicago and baseball history have been on display in the same location. Next to these icons stood the centerpiece of the collection, the perpetual Arlington Million trophy created by Tiffany and Co. just last year featuring the engraved name of 2017 Arlington Million winner Beach Patrol.
Other trophies on display included the Loyola Regional Championship trophy that qualified them for the Final Four this past spring, the bowl game championship trophies that were won by Northwestern University’s Wildcats football team the last two years, as well as the BMW Championship trophy which will be awarded to one of the top golfers in the world this September as part of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. On loan from the Kentucky Derby Museum in Louisville, Kentucky, the 1960 Kentucky Derby trophy won by Venetian Way was shown alongside the 1985 Eclipse Award given to Arlington as recognition for the special efforts behind its “Miracle Million” that year, the first Eclipse to ever be awarded to a racetrack.
Arlington will also host a special late-afternoon race card on Sunday, July 1, beginning at 4:15 pm and culminating with a dazzling display of fireworks at dusk in the longest show in the history of the track.
