Successful Arlington Million Card Returns Positive Effects, Additional Races for Remainder of 2018 Meet
The 2018 Arlington International Festival of Racing, headlined by the 36th running of the Arlington Million, succeeded in surpassing wagering projections for the entire weekend. Due to that success Arlington will invest its additional purse money into carding more races in the final 20 days of the 2018 season. Arlington will add 14 additional races to its remaining race schedule, which is a continuing goal of the track.
“The horsemen share the common goal of the track and the public to conduct more live races so we are pleased to provide these additional racing opportunities. Adding races is always at the top of the list of our business initiatives,” said Arlington General Manager Tony Petrillo. “We expect that the horsemen will embrace these races with full fields as they always seek more opportunities to earn purse money. This also provides a great opportunity for owners of Illinois horses to earn additional money through our Illinois Owners Award program.”
Beginning Thursday, August 23, first post will be moved to 1:00 p.m. to accommodate the addition of one race on that day’s card. This will continue on Saturday, August 25. The lone remaining 1:20 p.m. first post will be on Sunday, August 26. All 12 race days in September will have a 1:00 p.m. first post.
“Thanks to the support from our customers, the 2018 Festival of Racing has been positive from a wagering standpoint,” said Petrillo. “We are pleased to be able to add races to our remaining days, 14 races in total. As we move closer to the fall months, we have adjusted our first post to accommodate the earlier sunsets and the extended race day schedule.”
Admission gates will continue to open each day at 12:00 p.m.
The final “Party in the Park” Friday event with a 3:15 p.m. first post will take place August 31, kicking off a four-day Labor Day weekend with live racing at Arlington every day through Monday, September 3. Racing will continue Thursday through Saturday for the remaining three weeks of the meet, concluding on Saturday, September 22.
