Tickets to 2014 Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby Second-Prize

Handicappers yet to qualify for the 2014 Coast Casino's Horseplayer World Series (HPWS) need not despair. On Saturday, Jan. 18 all Illinois Trackside Off-Track Betting locations will be offering a last-chance contest with the top prize consisting of a berth to the HPWS.   Second prize in the contest will be two grandstand reserved-seat tickets to the 2014 Kentucky Oaks and 2014 Kentucky Derby, presented by Yum! Brands.

All players need to do to participate is purchase a $100 contest wagering card at the registration table and wager on at least one Thoroughbred race with a scheduled post time before is 6:30 p.m. Central time. Registration will begin at 11 a.m. Central time and close at 3 p.m. Central. Highlighting the national racing action on Jan. 18 is Fair Grounds’ “Road to the Derby Kickoff Day” card featuring the $200,000 Grade III Lecomte Stakes for 3-year-olds on the Derby trail and the $125,000 Silverbulletday Stakes for Oaks hopeful 3-year-old fillies.

At the end of the contest, the player who has accumulated the highest bankroll (subject to verification) will be the winner of the HPWS berth (a $1,500 value) and $350 to be used toward their travel to Las Vegas for the HPWS where first prize is estimated to be $300,000 and other cash prizes.  The winner of this contest must be able to travel to Las Vegas for the HPWS which will be held March 27-29 – there is no cash equivalent prize.

The runner-up in the contest will earn two grandstand reserved seat tickets for the 2013 Kentucky Oaks and 2014 Kentucky Derby to be held May 2-3. Third-place finisher will receive a 2014 season pass to Arlington International Racecourse.

“We wanted to give our handicappers one more chance to qualify for this year’s Horseplayer World Series,” explained Brittany Habbick, OTB Marketing Specialist for Arlington’s Trackside OTBs.  “I hope that the winner of this contest or any one of our contests during the past year takes home the big prize at the Horseplayer World Series.  With the Oaks and Derby tickets as a second-prize I expect the contest runner-up may be as happy as the winner.”

The contest will be organic to a typical day at the track, meaning that players will have the flexibility to wager in more pools (Win, Place, Show, Exacta, Trifecta, Superfecta, and multi-race wagers such as the Pick 3 and Pick 4) than in most other contests and have freedom to participate from any location within only the designated Trackside Off-Track Betting facility as there is no need for assigned contest wagering windows. However, all wagers must be made using the contest card at self-service terminals only. Players may invest winnings into future wagers. For complete contest rules, visit

To help with your Fair Grounds handicapping, all contest players will receive free Brisnet Ultimate Past Performances for the entire card.
