M. Scott McMannis attended Rockford University, The University of Illinois, and Northern Illinois University.  He majored in Economics, Business Administration, Finance, and Business Education.  After working in private industry and serving in the US Air Force Reserves, McMannis entered higher education and earned the title of Professor as a classroom instructor.  He then entered college administration and became an Academic Affairs Dean.  McMannis left higher ed for Thoroughbred racing.  He designed, implemented, and operated the industry’s first Handicapper’s Information Center at Arlington Park in 1982, then did the same for Sportsman’s Park and Hawthorne Race Course.  During his time in horseracing McMannis has written and handicapped for The Daily Racing Form, The Racing Times, American Turf Monthly, The HorsePlayer Magazine, and The Chicago Sun Times.  McMannis has also been a presenter at National Handicapping Expos since the first one in 1983 in Los Angeles.  Fans will find numerous references to McMannis in several handicapping books, most recently in Steve Davidowitz’s The Best and Worst of Thoroughbred Racing where McMannis is listed as one of the top handicappers in the nation.
